A fictional British office has received an unprecedented number of applications for a role described as eating steadily through summer before becoming unavailable for most of winter.
The vacancy was inspired by the success of a prize-winning marmot. Candidates said the duties aligned closely with their experience, particularly strategic snacking and protecting a comfortable place to sit.
Recruiters warned that the position requires demonstrable results. It is not sufficient to announce an intention to put on weight; applicants must show sustained delivery against a clear seasonal objective.
One manager submitted a portfolio consisting of restaurant receipts and photographs from a holiday. He was rejected because the marmot's achievements had not required an expense account or a presentation about authentic leadership.
The company's wellbeing team expressed concern about celebrating extended inactivity. Staff noted that the team had spent four months preparing a document asking whether people were doing too much.
A proposed hybrid arrangement would permit employees to hibernate from home on Fridays. Management rejected it because it could not distinguish this from the current reporting system.
The successful marmot remains unavailable for comment. A fictional representative explained that it had eaten what was required, gained the necessary mass and now wished to be left alone. The office has called this a compelling example of setting boundaries.
