A fictional environmental consultancy has expressed concern after a beaver delivered measurable improvements to a watercourse before the project's identity workshop had selected a typeface.
The animal began with locally available timber and a clear preference for keeping water in one place. Consultants described this as an encouraging prototype but questioned the absence of a discovery phase.
A stakeholder meeting was arranged beside the bank. The beaver attended briefly, collected a branch and returned to work, leaving participants to discuss whether this constituted meaningful engagement.
The consultancy's draft framework lists twelve dependencies, four delivery partners and a communications risk relating to the word dam. The beaver's framework is visible from the footpath and already contains water.
Procurement officials asked who would be accountable if the structure required adjustment. The animal demonstrated its preferred arrangement by adjusting the structure.
An independent reviewer praised the results but recommended stronger documentation. The beaver responded by placing another piece of wood across the flow, a decision recorded in the minutes as resistance to organisational learning.
The consultancy remains involved in the project. It has been commissioned to produce a case study explaining how its strategic approach enabled the beaver to continue doing what the beaver had been doing before the first meeting.
